The Oil Cleansing Method Broke Me Of My Proactiv Habit
I've been using the Oil Cleansing Method for 2 weeks now, and I am amazed at how well it's worked for me! Plus, it's SO CHEAP! With great joy, I'm discontinuing my costly and increasingly ineffective Proactiv habit.
My saga with acne started when I was 10, and, in chronological order, treatment included witch hazel, SeaBreeze, rubbing alcohol, various Clearasil and Oxy products, Mary Kay, washing 3 times a day, years of antibiotics, prescribed exfoliants and Cleosin T, Clarins, Accutane, and finally Proactiv. All of which worked for some amount of time, but didn't cure the problem.
If you can't guess, I have oily, oily skin. I inherited it from my father. Now in his sixties, he still breaks out, and has very oily skin. At least , when I was a teen, no one told me I would grow out of it!
Minutes after washing, you can see the oil forming in the pores on my nose. I'm a particularly tough case, and a tough customer, but a couple of things surprised me about the method. My skin felt clean and dry after the first use, just as if I'd used soap. When I used my astringent, NOTHING was left on the cotton ball. No orange or yellow traces of makeup or oil. That had never happened... ever.
For the first 3 or 4 days using the OCM, my existing acne looked aggravated, but areas that were normal looked really good, so I stuck it out. As warned, I was also more oily during that time. It's been 2 weeks, and I can now leave my house without base (!!!), just a little cover up, and I'm much less oily than usual. I had tiny breakouts at both temples, which is usually a clear zone, but I think I was just lazy with the washcloth. Best of all, the blackheads on my nose are gone, and the pores look great! Folks, I have a coupon for a glycolic peel in my desk drawer right now which I was going to use before Christmas for those very pores, but now, I don't need it!
I bought a 3 oz plastic bottle from Walgreen's for $1.49, filled it two-thirds of the way with Castor oil from Jewel-Osco, and one-third with olive oil. I perform the ritual nightly, and oil up before I shower in the morning (giving a quick swipe with a washcloth afterward). I continue to use my Proactiv astringent at night, and the repairing lotion morning and night. Honestly, I probably don't need the astringent. And, I plan to switch to a mild, OTC benzoyl peroxide product when I finish the repairing lotion. The 3 oz bottle looks like it will last me 6 to 8 weeks.
If you're curious, give the Oil Cleansing Method a try. I highly recommend it!
