My Parents Sold/Bought A House
My parents sold their home of 28 years in the semi-rural Midwest. It was a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1.5 storey house with an unfinished basement and 2-car garage. They've owned the home outright for years. Though they sold it for their minimum price, $150,000, they felt pretty good about it. It's a down market, after all, and they sold it by owner which is always more difficult.
My folks purchased a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, ranch home with a 3-car garage in a desirable URBAN area! It has a finished basement with a family room, another 2 bedrooms, and a bathroom; a sprinkler system; and wrought iron fence around the backyard (fancy!). They got it for $209,000; $10,000 off the $219,000 asking price.
Not only am I happy for my parents who now have a great retirement home, but my sister and I no longer have to trek an hour and a half through grasslands from the airport to get to them. Once we land, it will only be a 15 min drive to see them.
