Bought a Kenneth Cole Bag and Got 57% Off
A relative will be doing business with a really cool and prestigious company, and needs a work bag NOW. I regularly give generous Christmas and birthday gifts to this relative, who is struggling financially (but hopefully that's about to change), so I said this would count for Christmas. A bag like this is something we both felt you need to see and handle before you commit. We went to TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, and Macy's in that order.
At Macy's, we found the Kenneth Cole Reaction "Till Death Do Us Port" leather bag. The price tag said $400 -- would've been $440 with tax -- way out of my price range. I approached the salesman who said, "Maybe it's on sale. Let me check the price." Wait. Don't you mark something when it's on sale? I guess not, because it was HALF off! For those keeping track, that would've been $220 with tax.
Then, I discreetly asked the salesman if there was anything more he could do for us on the price, and received an additional 15% off. That brought the price to $195 including tax. Of course, I used my Schwab 2% cash back card, so I'll get $3.90 back, so I actually paid $191.10 for the bag.
If we'd had time, I would've ordered the bag online. The cheapest price I found was $119 at this place called LuggagePros. That's a $73 savings over what I paid. If you're interested, here's the link.
