Three Closets, Three Renovations

Our closets have been making me crazy.  First, they were dark, but I fixed that with a couple IKEA lights.  Don't get me wrong, the closets have enough space.  They even have a lot of overhead space in each, but what they didn't have was enough shelf space.

The living room closet had one shelf above the hanging bar, and the hangers hit it every time you tried to move them.  The shelf was made of two planks.  Above that were moldings to hold a second shelf.  I took one plank from the lower shelf, and moved it to the top shelf.  That improved the situation, but both shelves were really shallow.

Hubs went to Home Depot got some lumber, had it cut, and installed it while I was at work!

This closet is wider and taller than the doorway, so you're not seeing the full closet in the picture.  We've stacked the second shelf all the way to the ceiling and as far to the right as the closet allows.  Yay, storage!

The closet in the bedroom was a little more complicated because it didn't have the moldings for a second shelf... or studs.  Nonetheless, Hubs managed to get it done with some lumber, plywood, and anchors from Home Depot.

He even painted it!  What a dreamboat.

Now, here we have the entryway closet.

This closet is shallow, y'all!  Too shallow for a hanging bar, and the previous tenant had craptastic hooks in there.  I bought the new, lovely hooks at Anthropologie.  They weren't cheap, but Hubs fell in love with the animals when he saw them online, so I wanted him to have them.  The paint is the same as the rest of the entryway:  Skipper by Behr in semigloss.  One coat, 1/2 gallon.

Hubs removed the door, and painted over the bare spots left by the hinges.  Then, genius that he is, he stored the door under our bed!

Now, we have three much more functional closets.  And, I really have to hand it to Hubs who did all this work because he is tired of my whingeing such a good guy!
