Our Married Expenses

Here's what I think our expenses will look like going forward, based on two months of data.

Rent $1,100.00
Electric $42.00
Cooking Gas $20.00
Internet $14.00
Netflix $21.00
Hubs' health ins. $165.00
Car insurance $158.00
Car fuel $52.00
My CTA $40.00
Renter's insurance $15.00
My Gym $65.00
Cell phones $109.00
Food budget $340.00
My cash allowance $500.00
Hubs' cash allowance $500.00
Laundry $32.00

TOTAL $3,173.00

For reference, my expenses when I was single looked like this:

Rent $840.00
Elec $20.00
Cell $41.00
Internet $19.00
Gym $65.00
Netflix $22.00

$1,007.00

Food, etc… $753.00
EXPENSES $1,760.00

Hubs' bottom line as a single person was about the same, although he had a roommate, so the distribution was very different.  We're saving around $350/mo by living under the same roof, and sharing utilities and services.

Soon, I hope to put us both on the same cell phone plan, which should save us another $20/mo.  We will also enroll in the Flexible Spending Account offered by my primary client, which will save us around $400/yr on medical expenses.

    Hi,

Great post! I don't really care for it but, Great Post!! I especially like how you put in your "Single Living" expenses as well for comparison. This will allow people to see how their Single Living Expense bottom line is going to change if & when they decide to either get married, move in with someone else, upgrade to a much larger apt., or go from taking public transportation & cab's 100% of the time to purchasing a car. The list could go on and on and on......

I wonder how the radiator covers are coming along? They did look rather shabby but then again they were only 45.00 dollars each. I'm sure "Hubs" will think of something.

    Can't wait!

      Hi Sandro,

If it's the total of our married expenses you don't care for, let me tell you, we don't care for it either!  We're working on ways to cut down or cut back which I'll blog about when we have results, but I mostly covered it above:  cell phone bill, medical expenses.  We're also looking at unconventional ways to generate income... I'll save the details for a post.

Hubs finished the radiator covers, but they're not in place yet.  As soon as they're picture-ready, I'll write a post about it.  He painted them different colors, so, currently, I like one more than the other.  However, since they're not "in context", I'm reserving my final judgment.

      Thanks for visiting!
